Armenian Microbiological Association (AMA)

Armenian Microbiological Association (AMA) was established on the basis of the Institute of Microbiology in 2009. Now AMA is functioning in the Scientific and Production Center “Armbiotechnology” of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia. In 2010, the AMA was incorporated into the Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS) as a full member by the decision of the FEMS Council.

The President of AMA is Narine Vardanyan, D.Sc. in Biology. Dr. N. Vardanyan is also an AMA Delegate at FEMS.

Researchers from Yerevan State University, SPC “Armbiotechnology” of NAS RA, Yerevan State Medical University after M. Heratsi, Institute of Biochemistry after H. Buniatyan, National Polytechnic University of Armenia are enrolled in the AMA.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The priority area of AMA is General and Applied Microbiology which studies of the following aspects:

1. ecology, systematics and basic metabolism of microorganisms
2. microbial catalysis and transformations
3. bacterial insecticides
4. microbial deteriorations and microbial degradations of polymeric materials

A rich Collection of microorganisms of scientific and industrial importance, comprising around 1400 microbes, is maintained at the Microbial Depository Center of the Scientific and Production Center “Armbiotechnology” of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia.

MISSION

AMA aims at achieving the following objectives:

1. Development of General and Applied Microbiology in Armenia
2. Enhancement of microbiological technologies and their application
3. Dissemination of microbiological knowledge to general public at large
4. Preparation of specialists in Microbiology in Armenia, improvement of their hands-on capabilities, enhancement of their professional skills and promotion of career

MEMBERSHIP FEE

The membership fee of the Armenian Microbiological Association is AMD 2.000 (two thousand) per year.
