Laboratory of Amino Acids and Peptides Synthesis

 

Laboratory of Amino Acids and Peptides Synthesis was founded in 2019. Laboratory of Amino Acids and Peptides Synthesis is engaged in the development of methods for the synthesis of non-protein amino acids undescribed in the literature and production of short peptides on their basis.

 

RESEARCH MAIN DIRECTIONS

  1. Computer modeling of non-protein amino acids undescribed in the literature and peptides constructed on their basis by AutoGrid 4, AutoDock 4, and Pass-Online Software
  2. Synthesis of potentially bioactive amino acids and peptides:
  •  asymmetric biomimetic synthesis
  •   synthesis of peptides in solution
  •   study of the possible synthesis of new peptides by polymeric carriers

 

 

MAIN INVESTIGATION RESULTS

  • Study and introduction of software have allowed to reduce the series of synthesis of amino acids and peptides several times, which is preferable both economically and in terms of time.
  • Synthesis of several dozens of potentially bioactive non-protein amino acids, di-, tri- and tetrapeptides and studies of their biological activity revealed a number of important properties of the obtained compounds: antibacterial action, antifungal action, efficient inhibitory and neuroregulatory activities of enzymes - serial proteases, metalloproteases, etc.
  • Publication of more than two dozen scientific papers in this field, accomplishment of 2 PhD theses, 8 master’s theses and more than 20 diploma theses.
  • New collaboration with the staff of the Laboratory of Central Nervous System (CNS) functions compensation of L.A. Orbeli Institute of Physiology. This collaboration may allow to discover important neuroregulators in the series of new synthesized amino acids and peptides.
  • Collaboration with A.N. Nesmeyanov Institute of Organoelement Compounds of the Russian Academy of Sciences, where non-protein amino acids and peptides synthesized by us are tested in catalysis reactions.
  • Close collaboration and joint projects with Rostock University.
